It's been a while since I last 'blogged'. In fact, the last time I properly blogged, 'blog' wasn't a proper word. I had an online journal, by definition. The website I used to write on has since disappeared, taking with it the five-or-so years-worth of my inane mumblings. I'm not sure whether that's a good thing or not.
I don't want to make this first entry too long, so I guess I'll start with where I'm at right now. It's about half 12 on a Wednesday, so I'm at work, struggling through a few shipments that need to be finished by 2pm (a great idea, then, to be procrastinating). I'm looking forward to New Noise tonight, and it feels a little weird that two weeks ago we were celebrating (comiserating?) with Ben and his impending move to "the People's Republic". Without sounding like a massive homosexual, that week or two of nights out and spending time together really made me appreciate the friendship Ben and I have, and I know quite a lot of the time I can be a bit of an infuriating and self-centred git, Ben, more than most, has been through a lot of shit with me. So to see him leave and do something which
a) I could never do in a million years
b) he has been working towards for some time
makes me both really happy, in that he's doing something genuinely awesome but also very sad in that he's choosing a country - whose primary culinary delicacy is dog - over me. The shit.
(love you really bebz)
To be honest all that hasn't really sunk in. We had an emotional goodbye at the airport, I even bought a bottle of champagne (even though he asked for a coke) but the ability to still be able to talk to him regularly online does take away from the fact that he is approximately 2342980 miles away. That said, it's already been a week since his departure, I'm sure that pretty soon it will be a month, then 6 months, then suddenly he'll be back, all slitty-eyed and confusing his r's and l's.
So alongside having a vacancy for a 'brother', I now have a temporary vacancy for 'best friend'. That said, there's a girl who's been pretty much lighting up my life for the three weeks that I've known her and it's fair to say I'm pretty enamoured. So hopefully things will turn out well there. I've been given two press passes for Offset Festival so I am taking her and, illness permitting, we will have a pretty awesome time. The lineup is utterly sublime and the festival site looks pretty cool too.
Musically the band is coming along well, I spent a full four hours yesterday playing with my new microKorg, so I guess we're basically the next Jarcrew now. Promotion-wise, I have a few gigs coming up in September, then a hectic October/November. I'm also trying to get Lightning Bolt and The Locust to play some small shows in Kingston. El oh el.
Hmm, this turned out longer than expected. I promise the next one won't be. Unless something really interesting happens.
